Dining Out

Going out to eat can be a fun experience. For many, dining out is more of a way of life than a luxury. This can pose a special set of problems for who are interested in weight loss.

While it may seem hard to make healthy choices in restaurants, it’s not impossible. Since restaurant portions are generally larger than those we eat at home, check to see if the establishment serves lunch or half portions of your favorite dish. Maybe you can opt for the soup and salad rather than the filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes? Once you've made your decision and informed the waiter then your work is done.

Remember that baked or grilled meats or fish are widely offered at nearly all restaurants, and they are lower in fat and calories. When it comes time for dessert, just don't do it. If you simply cannot resisit the dessert menu then opt for the lemon mirangue pie or a fruit dessert.

Many restaurants have a low calorie menu that you can order from. Perhaps you may have to seek out these types of restaurants when considering dining out. You can also do your homework and make yourself aware of the caloric and fat content of certain foods so that you will be prepared when you are dining out.
